BOTANICAL AVENUE YARD
When the clients moved to St. Louis, Missouri, they purchased one of the cities brick row houses. It was built in 1914 and is a couple of blocks from both the Missouri Botanical Gardens and Tower Grove Park and is in the historic Shaw Neighborhood. The back yard was a concrete slab parking area and little else. Our project consisted of designing and building a secure carport as well as an outdoor living space that was safe, private and offered an airy respite from the hum of the city surrounding it. From the beginning, it was described as a meditation yard - a low maintenance space for relaxation. The budget was modest, and the site offered no off street storage. It was built with off-the-shelf affordable materials that could be readily purchased as the work proceeded.
