CONSTITUTION
HALL
It
is said that the events that took place in this building led to
the term bleeding Kansas and eventually to the Civil
War. It is one of the oldest frame buildings west of the Mississippi
and drafting a constitution for the territory is one of many functions
this building has housed. As
part of the restoration we lifted the entire structure, excavated
and formed a new concrete basement, and relayed every stone back
in its original location. We also restored the interior and designed
and built a display system that describes its history. Today this
building is one of Kansas most visited state historic sites
and a jewel in Lecomptons historic inventory of buildings.
