EPARD/PORSCH
HOUSE
This
house expresses the interests and lives of our clients as well
as our own continuing interest in experimentation in form, order
and materials. Our clients wanted a tall house to occupy a hilltop
location with multiple layers of up/down and in/out spaces not
unlike the farms they both grew up on in western Kansas. We all
wanted a house that was environmentally sensible with thick insulated
walls, controlled apertures and the optimum in passive cooling
and heating. We threaded the building in among a group of established
trees that surrounded a former residence on the site. The outside
skin is Kansas limestone. The tower links the public and private
realms and has a movable cover to facilitate the use of the couples
telescope.
