MAINE STREET RESTORATION
This house built in 1906 needed to be updated. The attic space had been roughly finished but was inadequately conditioned. The roof and attic walls had little or no insulation. They were brought up to code with high density spray foam in the existing framing cavities to maximize the insulation without losing head room. The deteriorated windows were replaced with energy star rated units and a heat pump was installed for conditioning the space. The rest of house was guided by the careful installation of contemporary materials into the existing century old fabric. The entertainment room for example, includes backlighted polycarbonate panels in custom steel frames inserted inside the existing plaster walls and trim. An alcohol burning flueless fireplace was added in an opening cut between the relocated living room and dining room.
