HOUSE
We designed and built this house on a very limited budget for
a site near the University of Kansas. The shady street, in the
older university neighborhood, is very active with students, faculty
and staff coming and going from KU. The busy sidewalk, sloped
site, numerous trees and limited budget led to a very simple solution.
The elevated form gives visual and acoustic privacy from the street,
provides covered parking, and minimizes the footprint of the foundation
leaving all of the existing trees in place. Pushing the house
up to the front yard setback maximized the use of the more secluded
realm of space behind the house. We created this house for clients
who were excited to find an infill site so they could walk to
work, take part in the local schools, participate in the university
neighborhood and express their love for modern architecture.
