In the spring of 2015 Studio 804 finished the house at 1301 New York Street in Lawrence, Kansas. It was built to maximize the southern exposure. It sold to past client of Rockhill and Associates and after living in the house for a couple years he approached us about designing and building a new screen porch and covered walkways that would stretch along the south side of the house over the existing patio and sidewalks and connect the porches and garage. At the center would be a screened in outdoor room off the south exit from the house. To compliment the cedar shingled house the new construction was built with smooth cedar dimension lumber. The roof is galvanized sheet metal and the screens are aluminum framed taking a visual cue from the galvanized roof and gutters used on the house. The width and height of the covered walkways were calculated to assure the winter sun would still enter the Passive House Institute US certified building when desired.
