SENSIBLE HOUSE

This project focuses on issues of sustainability more than any single family project we have completed to date. This three bedroom house is located on fifty acres just west of Baldwin City, KS. Although the site is former pasture land, conservation of the ground is always a primary consideration as we preferred the sloped edges rather than take up the good pasture or tillage area with the building footprint. Passive solar heating was a primary consideration. Every room has south facing floor to ceiling windows. This unique attribute is enabled with the addition of an interior courtyard space. The concrete mass floor and cross ventilation assure the owners of less consumption of fuel in the winter and good cross ventilation in the summer.
