STUDIO 804 SYMPOSIUM

A symposium to honor the 20th anniversary of Studio 804 drew Studio 804 alumni and like-minded architects from around the world. It included Brian MacKay-Lyons, Marlon Blackwell, Bridgett Shim, Frank Harmon, Ted Flato, and Andrew Freear. The gathering occurred in a University of Kansas owned warehouse that is the home of Studio 804. Rockhill and Associates and Studio 804 worked together to develop and assemble a temporary presentation hall. The amount of room this warehouse offers Studio 804 inspired the design. A few months before Olson Kundig’s office had offered a collection of large glulam beams of varying sizes and lengths. We had no idea what we would do with them, but they were too nice to say no. We still have the beams and still think about using them regularly.
