TINY HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS

We were asked to design low cost, low maintenance tiny homes that could be mass produced and placed on an urban piece of property in Kansas City, Missouri to house the homeless. Our proposal used square concrete storm culvert sections for the primary structure. One end was filled with glass and would face south. The other end included the entry door and a small window for cross ventilation. We used remote controlled camper awnings to shade the space and give the occupant the ability to adjust to up to the minute changes in the weather conditions and uses of the space. The project was never funded.
