WEDDING ON THE PLAINS
This chapel and reception hall were constructed of recycled materials for the wedding and reception and then disassembled. The forms celebrate the union of the couple through the broad upward gesture of the chapel made with saplings gathered nearby. It reaches toward the sky. The reception hall is more grounded with its strong horizontal lines. The roof is a Lamella truss – a web of identically sized dimension lumber boards bolted together to span the forty foot width. The bride departed her ancestral home, walked under the lamella and joined the processional to the altar. It was a beautiful fall evening as the sun set on the ceremony. The string lights in the hall illuminated the festive reception that followed.
