LAKE HOUSE
We designed this house for a beautiful site overlooking Prairie Lee Lake near Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The program called for meeting the needs of a large family with a wide variety of both indoor and outdoor interests that was planned to eventually include an outdoor ice skating rink. Taking advantage of the natural breezes from the lake and views toward the shore line we developed a scheme that is elevated above the rocky subsurface where most outdoor activities can occur in the shadows of its elevated form. A simple U shaped plan wraps around the focus of outdoor living and horizontal sunscreens protect the interior from the western evening sun.
