SENSIBLE HOUSE

This three bedroom house is located on fifty acres just west of Baldwin City, Kansas. The site is built at the edge of open land that had the potential to be restored prairie. Passive solar heating and cross ventilation were a primary concern. Every room has louvered south facing floor to ceiling windows and operable windows on at least two walls. This was made possible with a private courtyard at the heart of the house. The floors are radiant heated concrete that also acts as a solar mass to hold the sun’s heat when it penetrates the room during the winter.
