BENEDICT HOUSE + COTTAGES
The Benedict House is a small, two-story historic Queen Anne house built in the late 1800’s. It was saved from demolition by the Lawrence Preservation Alliance who sought our assistance in creating a suitable plan to preserve the structure. Rather than demolishing the house we created a campus of rental units on the open lot adjacent to the historic house. This enabled the project to maintain a positive cash flow and save the house. We used inexpensive materials and methods while echoing the historic house in a contemporary manner. One example is the hand folded shingles that capture the tactile qualities of historic building techniques.
