HOMEWORKS USA
This intentional community will support emerging adults who have aged out of foster care as they prepare for adulthood. The goal is to allow them the opportunity to imagine and realize their dreams in a setting built on the foundation of “home works, nature helps, and services matter.“ The community is sited on a 26-acre parcel of privately owned land in a rural area of Leavenworth County, Kansas. Newly created public hiking trails will encircle the residences. A private shuttle service will provide transportation for residents to nearby Lawrence. We designed the community of 15 affordable housing units with footprints of 256 and 384 square foot each. The units are clustered in groups of five to encourage interaction but avoid the institutional feel of much multi-family housing. The first cluster of units are under construction at this time.
