MISSOURI STREET HOUSE

This small house near the University of Kansas campus had been a student rental for years and had been poorly treated. When it was put up for sale we purchased it and approached its restoration as speculative project. We stabilized the existing structure, stripped out all of the later 20th century partitions and finishes and removed the low ceiling to open up the volume. A small addition was built to house new bedrooms. The fanciful bird like addition was inspired by the airplane bungalows prevalent in the neighborhood.
