This house is on a site near the University of Kansas. The shady street, in the older university neighborhood, is very active with students, faculty and staff coming and going from KU. The busy sidewalk, sloped site, numerous trees and limited budget led to a very simple solution. The elevated form gives visual and acoustic privacy from the street, provides covered parking, and minimizes the footprint of the foundation and preserves the existing trees. Pushing the house up to the front yard setback maximized the use of the more secluded realm behind the house.
