VAN GO INC. SIGN + ALUMNI WALL
Alumni Wall
A glass mural had been intended for the north elevation of the Van Go building when it was originally designed. The youth that were part of the program in the past, present and future would create a fused glass tiles would be attached to the steel frame until the wall was covered with what would be an abstract mural. For budget reasons it did not happen. A decade later the idea was revived as a fundraiser for the program. Tiles were “bought” by the public, the youth in program then created the glass pieces until the wall was covered. The project met its fund raising and artistic goals.
The Sign
After the completion of the Alumni Wall a new sign was the next project to be tackled. It was approached as a piece of yard art that stretched along the corner lot and expressed the whimsical spirit of Van Go. Each letter is made with two layers of galvanized steel plate with a light mounted between.
